Aliwal Shoal March 2023 - Dive Review

We headed off to our Sardine Safari partner Buddy Scuba Dive Adventures this past week for a couple of dives on Aliwal Shoal. And boy did the shoal not disappoint!

We were fortunate to squeeze in 2 dives before we headed off to Port Edward, the first being a wreck named Nebo and the second a shallower dive on Chunnel.

The Nebo wreck, sank in 1884 after running aground on the shoal. Divers exploring the Nebo wreck can expect to encounter a diverse array of marine life, including schools of colorful fish, rays, and even the occasional shark. The wreck itself is also home to a variety of crustaceans and other small creatures, which have made their homes in the decaying wreck.

Exploring the Nebo wreck is not without its challenges, however. The site is located in an area with strong currents, and the wreck itself is quite deep, requiring advanced diving skills and equipment. Nevertheless, for those with the experience and training, the Nebo wreck offers a unique and unforgettable diving experience.

Overall, the Nebo wreck on Aliwal Shoal is a fascinating and rewarding dive site for those with the skills and experience to explore it. With its rich history, unique underwater landscape, and thriving marine ecosystem, the Nebo wreck is a must-visit destination for any adventurous diver.
